Hvort sem stuðst er við almennar aðferðir, verkfæri, myndræna framsetningu eða hugbúnaðarlausnir eru aðferðir notaðar til að auðvelda störf verkefnastjóra. Góður árangur í nútíma samkeppnisumhverfi er háður skilvirkri beitingu aðferða, til að auka nákvæmni, lágmarka áhættu og tryggja að verkefni séu vel framkvæmd. Markmið rannsóknarinnar er að greina hvaða aðferðir verkefnastjórar á Íslandi nota og kanna viðhorf þeirra til notkunar þeirra. Rannsóknin byggir á bæði megindlegum- og eigindlegum rannsóknaraðferðum, með viðeigandi tölfræðigreiningu og stuðst var við niðurstöður rannsóknar Tereso o.fl. (2019), Project Management Practices in Private Organizations, til að greina vinsældir aðferða hér á landi. Niðurstöður leiða í ljós að helstu aðferðir sem notaðar eru á Íslandi eru verkáætlun, skilgreining á umfangi verkefnis og stöðufundur. Verkefnastjórar úr einkageiranum nota þessu til viðbótar þarfagreiningu einna mest og hið opinbera notar verkþáttalista. Lítill samhljómur er á milli einkageirans hér á landi, í samanburði við Tereso o.fl., þrátt fyrir að stöðufundur sé í báðum rannsóknum þriðja mest notaða aðferðin. Niðurstöður Tereso o.fl. skila ræsfundi sem mest notuðu aðferðinni og verkþáttalista þar næst. Þá sýna niðurstöður jafnframt jákvætt viðhorf starfandi verkefnastjóra til aðferða almennt. Þátttakendur rannsóknar telja að aðferðir auðveldi störf þeirra, stuðli að meiri skilvirkni og hafi jákvæð áhrif á árangur verkefna. Þátttakendur úr einkageiranum sýna meiri trú á ávinningi aðferða, nota þær oftar og búa almennt yfir meiri þekkingu. Vottaðir verkefnastjórar beita aðferðum oftar, treysta betur á gagnsemi þeirra og fá meiri stuðning frá vinnuveitendum til beitingar aðferða. Project management practices are applied to support the execution of projects. Whether using general practices, tools, visual frameworks or software solutions, these practices are employed to facilitate the work of project managers. Achieving strong performance in today’s competitive environment relies on the effective use of such practices to improve accuracy, minimize risk, and ensure successful project delivery. The aim of this study is to identify which project management practices are most used by project managers in Iceland, and to examine their attitudes toward the use of these practices. The research is based on both quantitative and qualitative approaches, supported by appropriate statistical analysis and incorporates the findings of Tereso et al. (2019), Project Management Practices in Private Organizations, to assess the popularity of methods in Iceland. The findings show that the most widely used practices in Iceland are a baseline plan, a project scope statement, and a progress meeting. Project managers in the private sector also frequently use requirement analysis, while those in the public sector rely more on a work breakdown structure. Minor similarities were found between the Icelandic private sector practices and the findings of Tereso et al., despite progress meetings being the third most used practice in both studies. In Tereso et al., kick-off meetings are reported as the most used practice, followed by a work breakdown structure. The result of this study further indicates that Icelandic project managers generally hold positive attitudes toward project management practices. Participants believe that such practices simplify their work, improve efficiency and positively influence project outcomes. Private sector participants show greater confidence in the benefits of these practices, use them more frequently and report higher levels of knowledge overall.
