<dim:field mdschema="dc" element="description" qualifier="abstract" lang="en">This thesis is submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for a BA degree in Social Work at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Iceland. The aim of this study is to examine the barriers that hinder social participation and accessibility for children with physical disabilities in society. Various environmental factors can either facilitate or restrict their participation, as supportive environments can enhance engagement, whereas restrictive environments may limit it. The findings indicate that barriers within the school environment are the most significant obstacles to the participation of children with physical disabilities, although negative social attitudes also constitute a major barrier. The environment does not adequately meet the needs of these children, and accessibility has a substantial impact on both their participation and psychological well-being. It is essential that all children have equal access to education that meets their individual needs in order to support their development. Inclusive special education can provide effective learning opportunities for children with disabilities within environments that best suit their needs. Overall, the findings highlight the importance of removing societal barriers and creating environments that support active participation</dim:field>
